Quiet Times

I just want to let you know

Whenever we’re inside or outside

And the day is as warm as fun,

A day where we get to play outside

In the flowers

By the calming beaches

Singing melodies of our hearts

Or when it’s cold and tranquil

We’re stuck at home

Curled up by the fire

Playing together

When it rains and we’re under the cover of a random building

Maybe we’re in class learning US History together

Maybe we’re on opposite ends of the room learning Spanish

Whether we’re together or apart

Whether you care about this poem or not

There are many times of laughter and crying

The echoes of our emotions consuming us whole

The world waiting for us to stop

But I’m not here to talk about that

There are many times of silence

Nothing happens.

You play your games

I listen to my music and write

The silence is the loudest thing present, and the most powerful

Countless times I try to kill it, but it resurfaces

It is ubiquitous whenever we are together

Yet I love it

I love when we say nothing

Because I love being with you, one of my dearest friends

And we don’t have to do anything to enjoy our finite time together
