Sugar is sweet
Sugar is a delicious treat
Sugar makes all the world’s best foods better
Ice cream, cookies, and cake
Sugar is what makes them what they are
Sugar makes life sweeter

A girl eats a spoonful of sugar every day
She may tingle, she may twitch
Yet her life is always sweet
She usually avoids eating too much
She doesn’t want to hurt herself…
…But sugar isn’t something she can get rid of
Sugar is anywhere and everywhere for her
Sugar’s consumption cannot be stopped
|
One day, the girl has a test
She studies day and night to prepare
She eats a spoonful of sugar, and then another
She eats another spoonful, and yet still another
She eats sugar like her life depends on it
Each minuscule grain more exhilarating than the last
The sugar only weighed her down
It gave her a poor tummy ache and her test didn’t go too well
She has yet to find out about her test, so she swallows more sugar
It slides into her mouth and dances on her tongue
Leading the girl’s curiosity to reach its peak
Wondering how poorly the girl did
|
Another day, the girl has to perform
She practices in her room over and over, still not thinking it’s enough
She eats a spoonful of sugar, but that’s not all
She takes a cup of sugar and gulp it down
The girl begins to jump about and chatter her teeth
The world is so slow yet so fast at the same time
At the performance, she still jitters and ponders
Millions of thoughts race across her mind to reach her
“What if I mess up?” “This isn’t good enough.”
Almost as choking as the sugar she consumed tonight
The girl does well with her performance, but she still consumes the sugar
She’s still weighed down by the sugar and the thoughts it’s feeding her

Her doctor recommends that she doesn’t consume too much sugar
Her parents and friends as well
Unfortunately, this girl cannot stop eating sugar
Every time she eats a spoonful of sugar, she knows she shouldn’t have done so
She wishes she could take it back, and so, she eats more sugar
This sugar is not her friend
Friends do not scare one another
The girl knows this sugar is the devil in disguise, but…
She can never stop eating the sugar
Even when she tries to avoid it all day, it still trickles its way into her mouth
Consuming her rather than her consuming it
