The Rain

I think I now understand why the rain is a symbol for sadness

|

Imagine a sunny day

Full of joy, wonder, and cheer

People are hanging out and socializing outside

The animals are singing and dancing across the streets

Kids are playing sports or swimming in the cool summer air

Maybe even a rainbow appears in the water

Trying to make you laugh and smile

These days make you want to live

Really live

Or a partly sunny day

Where there is less joy

But people are still outside

And happy to be alive

|

Or even a cloudy day

There is less excitement and happiness

The dull, gray clouds possess everyone’s mood

Leaving nothing but a slate of neutrality

Unsure of one’s feelings

Joy and sadness shrouded in the clouds

Fog and mist creating a sense of mystery

Yet this is better than rainy days

|

On rainy days, it could be anything

It could be a light drizzle

Like when you get called a few mean names

Or an average pour of dismay

For every bad mood you ever had

And every failed test

Or every fight with someone

It could be a heavy downpour

Such as loss and rejection

From friends, enemies, and much more

It could stem from change or envy as the rain washes the streets

The snow could be the icier days

When you don’t want anyone to come out and help

You distance and freeze yourself

Or even a storm

A storm of unthinkable tragedies that make you want to end

|

But after a while, the rain goes away

Which is sweet, but not by a lot

For the clouds are still gray

And the streets are still wet

You’re not sad anymore

But it’ll take some time before becoming happy or content again
